Work
Anja Palombo’s work is visual poetry and response. She asks the viewer to leave cultural and personal baggage behind and be present to the realm governed by physics, nature, form and space.
In her process she sets up an exchange with the media, structuring the work around action and control, versus reaction and chance. The magical moments happen in damp thin walled bodies of clay moving under pressure and force, cuts revealing new shapes, forms and angles cast light revealing new compositions and relationships between a piece and its environment. This process creates associations allowing metaphorical pictures to arise and evolve. The dance between taking and giving up control, between observation and reaction is a never ending source of wonder and inspiration. With this process, Anja creates a visual language that expresses a sense of belonging in the natural and physical world.
Anja challenges herself to create a visual language that is universal and familiar, conjuring up experiences and metaphors while being visually focused and disciplined. The pieces are spaces for observation and creation of meaning, involving the viewer in the creative process.
Anja’s art is a meditation on balance , creating a visual space for all viewers to be grounded in the moment and in the internal and external realities that unite us.
Anja is based in Sarasota, Florida and Hamburg, Germany.
